WORKS SUITABLE FOR FAMILY/YOUTH/EDUCATIONAL CONCERTS

 

Many of Jonathan Bailey Holland's compositions have been written specifically for education and/or young people's concerts. He has done several residencies with orchestras and other ensembles that have included speaking at schools, libraries, churches and other venues to both children and adults about classical music and music composition. His works have been performed on education concerts by such orchestras as the Baltimore, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Philadelphia, South Bend and Stamford Symphonies. Orchestral Works

 

     Four Sections (2002) 13'

    commissioned and premiered by the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Tsung Yeh, cond.

 

    This work is intended to serve as an alternative to Britten's Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra.

    Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock (1996) 12'

    commissioned and premiered by the Baltimore Symphony, William Curry, cond.

 

    Based on the book by Eric Kimmel, the music accompanies the telling of one of the stories about Anansi the Spider which comes from African folk-tales.            

 

    It's About Time (1995) 8'

    commissioned by Meet the Composer/ Philadelphia, Cleveland, St. Louis Symphonies

    premiere: Philadelphia Orchestra, Andre Smith, cond.

 

    An introduction to musical meter.

    Somewhere in the World Right Now (1998) 6'

    commissioned and premiered by WAMSO-Volunteers of the Minnesota Orchestra

   

    Based on the book by Stacey Schuett, the book covers the topics of geography and time zones.
